How Do Colours Translate In Black And White Photography?

During one of our digital image lessons we was told that when doing black and white photography to choose your colour palette wisely, as a lot of colours won't be as vibrant or noticeable on certain skin tones so me and a group of people took it to the test! We took one of our Charles Fox Super Colour palette and painted every shade of colour on someones arm then took a colour and black and white image and the results was quite shocking! As you can see a lot of the colours still translate dark and vibrant, of course the black is still the darkest and the white is still the brightest, but the two shades of orange are pretty much not even visible on the skin, along with the aqua blue which I thought was very odd to not be very noticeable on the skin which thinking about it could just mean that she had a slight cool undertone to her skin, which made the light blue not very noticeable on her skin. I wish I could of tested this on a much darker skin tone to see what the results would have turned out like to see how different colours and undertones work with different skin tones!
